Most people have quite a few questions about can wisdom teeth grow back. The average person wouldn’t know much about their teeth. The most notable thing they’d know is they need to brush them regularly and practice dental hygiene.

When it comes to the actual dental teeth, there’ll be plenty of questions:

  • After being extracted, can wisdom teeth grow back?
  • Why are wisdom teeth so painful?
  • How many does a person have?
  • How can you make them come in easier?

These are all great questions to ask, but the biggest worry is whether they’ll grow back. They could cause a lot more pain if they do. With that said can wisdom teeth grow back?

In short, no, but there’s a lot more to it than that.

Can Teeth Grow Back?

Before looking at whether wisdom teeth grow back, it’s worth looking at whether any of your teeth can grow back. As it turns out, that’s a condition known as hypodontia. This makes it seem like teeth are growing back after they’ve been removed. While this makes it seem like teeth are growing back, the reality is much simpler. It’s the process of someone having more teeth in their mouth than they should. These extra teeth are buried under the gum until they have the space to erupt.

Since most people believe their teeth would’ve erupted already, they think they are regrowing. That isn’t the case. Instead, the extraction made the space available for the extra teeth to grow out and erupt. This usually doesn’t cause any problems, like extra pain. Space will usually be available for them to enter without affecting anything else. There are some cases; however, when the teeth can erupt without any previous extractions. Should that happen, it’s best to talk to a dentist to have them taken care of.

What About Wisdom Teeth?

Does that mean wisdom teeth grow back? No, it doesn’t. A condition known as hyperdontia might make it seem like wisdom teeth grow back, but these are just extra teeth that have erupted. They’re not linked to the wisdom teeth in any way; however, this only happens in relatively rare cases, and it shouldn’t be anything to worry about. If you’re worried about it, it’s always worth seeing a dentist to put yourself at ease.
